What you actually do
Departure is from Cosijoeza 110A in the centre; the van ride to Hierve el Agua takes about 105 minutes. Reviews from May and September 2026 mention two stops on the way out that the itinerary does not list: a bakery, and the Tule tree.
Hierve el Agua gets three hours. That covers the walk to the mineral formations, the pools (swimming is allowed; bring swimwear) and the hiking trails and viewpoints. Only people from the surrounding community are allowed to guide inside the park, and most of them speak only Spanish, so the Oaxaca by Locals guide cannot lead you inside and the three hours are self-directed unless you take a local guide at the site.
Then 50 minutes in the van to a distillery and 90 minutes there: the production walk-through, the tasting and a shop. The distillery is not named; reviewers describe the tasting as generous, one calling it “open bar”.
One September 2026 review puts the return to the centre at around 5:30 pm.

Unlike the 11-hour loop, which leaves the MXN 70 Hierve el Agua fee to you at the gate, this tour has it in the price. Bring pesos anyway for lunch, a local guide if you want one, and the distillery shop.
Who it’s for / who should skip it
Best fit: people for whom Hierve el Agua is the reason to go east, who want time to swim and walk rather than a two-hour photo stop, and who are fine with a self-guided site. The tour runs in English; 92% of English-speaking bookers rate it positively. Group size is not published; reviews describe a van group of mixed nationalities.
Skip it with back or heart problems, vertigo, epilepsy or high blood pressure, or if you are over 70: all are on the operator’s exclusion list, and they reflect the hiking and the heights at the site. If you would rather have Mitla and the Tule tree in the same day, the loop does that at the cost of one hour less at Hierve el Agua.
